In the 1970s and 1980s, when cassette tapes were at their peak, there were three major brands that led the industry. One of them was Maxell. In 1966, the year The Beatles arrived in Japan, Maxell began selling Japan's first cassette tape, the "C," based on a mold drawing purchased from Philips in the Netherlands.
Since then, Maxell has continued to sell cassette tapes for almost 60 years while its competitors have withdrawn from the market until now in the 21st century.
