This wonderful antique French Bulldog box was probably made to be used as a tobacco jar but there is no evidence that tobacco was ever stored in it. The interior is clean and fresh, no lingering odour.

The dog is carved in wood and appears to have a black lacquer/paint finish with a red paint/varnish interior. He has large, distinctive googly glass eyes, with carved nostrils and mouth/ teeth.

There is no makers stamp. I estimate that the box was probably made in the late 1920s or early 1930s, Art Deco era.

Approximate measurements:  11 inches tall, 28 cm and 6 inches wide, 15 cm in width at the widest part.

This fabulous, decorative, unusual bulldog box can be used for almost any storage purpose, and in any room setting.
