Hand-carved tonewoods for enhanced sound and longevity

Samuel Eastman cellos are made from aged tonewoods using tried-and-tested methods. The VC100’s top is hand carved from solid Chinese spruce wood, used for its stiffness and tonal qualities; the back is also carved from solid maple wood. The top and back are then girdled by laminate maple ribs for increased durability, and finished with a high-gloss varnish for long-lasting beauty. Even the fingerboard, pegs, and bridge are all made using old-world techniques. Together, each component adds to the instrument’s attractive look and supreme tone quality.

Eastman: crafting fine instruments since 1992

Accomplished flutist Qian Ni founded Eastman in 1992 after graduating from the Boston University School of Music. Similar to Sweetwater, Eastman started as a one-man operation, with Ni selling instruments out of the back of his car.
