Polar Planimeter MM-P Vintage Device Soviet Measuring Tool Amsler-Corado USSR Engineering in Original Box
The principle of operation of the Amsler-Corado device is based on measuring the lengths of arcs described on the surface by a special roller with a very small contact spot. The roller is fixed on one of the hinged levers of the simplest pantographic mechanism. The known position of the roller relative to the links of the mechanism makes it possible to approximate the measured contour with a rectangle with a known length of the sides and an area equal to the area of the measured contour when the measuring pin of the pantograph goes around the measured contour by rolling the roller at each specific moment of time along an arc with a strictly defined radius.
