Up for sale is a used JVC SRP-471-E-5 auto return turntable. Cosmetically the turntable is in great condition. The wood base is near perfect with only a couple corners showing minor distress marks. The acrylic dust cover is free of cracks and chips however does have some surface scratches that one might be able to remove to some degree using the proper plastic cleaners and polishes. Prior to packing the dust cover with large bubble wrap, I took the liberty to remove the metal hinges and plates and have carefully wrapped them up. The metal plinth still has the factory transit screws plus there are separate suspension screws. Also included is the adapter for 45 rpm records. The tonearm is all there with the factory headshell and what looks to be a good cartridge and stylus. I secured the tonearm to the arm rest and also secured the anti skating weight. I left the counter weight on the tonearm because it appears to be spring loaded and secured to the end of the tonearm. I have tinkered some with the turntable. When I acquired it, the speed selector knob was seized up. I took the liberty to disassemble the speed assembly so I could clean off all of the sticky dried up grease. Once lubricated and reassembled, I was able to turn the speed selector assembly with ease. The start/reject lever works and it does turn the motor on. The problem I’m having is that the turntable platter barely spins, regardless of the position of the speed selector knob. From my observations, it appears that the idler wheel isn’t making good contact with the motor pulley. Possibly a spring tension issue or an adjustment needs to be made? It appears that the auto return feature does work however I couldn’t test fully since the platter needs to be spun manually for that feature to work. I have taken several pictures of the turntable so you can see the overall condition and what you will be getting. The entire turntable is wrapped in layers of large bubble wrap and packed securely in a heavy duty cardboard box that’s lined with layers of 1” styrofoam panels cut to fit the interior walls of the box. Thanks for looking.
