Rare Chinese Jade Ritual Gui Scepter

Object Name: Ritual object Gui

Content: This piece derives its shape from the ancient scepter known as gui. Gui, associated with ceremonies and symbolizing nobility. Such objects came to represent the status of the holder. The "Six Ritual Jade" originating in China history were the bi (a flat disk with a hole in its center), the cong, the huang (a flat, half-ring pendant), the hu and the flat, bladelike gui and zhang.

The circular bi as representing the heavens, the cong as representing the earth, the gui the east, the zhang the south, the hu the west and the huang the north.

Historical Period: Qing dynasty (1644-1911)

Material: Jade, brass

Design: This Gui made from jade, on it inlay brass made up of dragon head and Chinese characters. It is supposed as a tooling for ritual ceremonial purpose in ancient China
