During the period of the Beatles' activities in the 1960s, the Beatles followed the format of not including the two AB sides of their singles released as new songs on their original albums, and as a result, many of the famous songs from their singles that were big hits worldwide were not included on their albums. At the time, this was done to avoid duplicating the same songs for fans who bought the records, but times have changed, and it was not until 1988 that the "Past Masters" compilation was released to resolve the inconvenience of having single songs missing from all the albums. The album contains not only the AB sides of the singles, but also all the songs that were not included on the albums, such as EP-only songs, in chronological order. The CD version was called "VOLUME 1/2", but this "SUPERB PREMIUM" includes four songs from "Yellow Submarine", the only album not included in the series, as well as "Past Masters Extras".
