Waterman 42 vintage 125.5mm 1920 gold overlay fountain pen exc++.

Trattasi di una interessante penna stilografica d'epoca della Waterman di circa 100 anni di età, un modello di dimensioni grandi per l'epoca, ovvero lunga 125,5mm senza considerare gli anelli al top, modello 42, rivestita in oro 18k, il classico "gold overlay" tanto famoso in quegli anni, che era tipico, ovviamente, delle penne di alta gamma.  Solitamente le penne con anellini erano mediamente da poco a molto più piccole di quelle con clip, e spesso venivano considerate "da signora", questa ora in vendita è invece grande come le "grandi" con clip, ed è anche piuttosto "cicciotta", e questo si spiega con il fatto che fa parte delle penne dei primi anni di produzione di queste "18k rolled Gold", tra il 1918 ed il 1923, e questo spiega anche perchè sulla superficie della doratura non è presente la scritta con la marca, mentre la penne è evidentemente Waterman non solo per il pennino originale, ma anche perchè reca la scritta 42 sul fondellino in ebanite.

Questa penna ora in vendita è in condizioni più che buone, bella e sana, ed il rivestimento in oro integro e bello, con solamente qualche piccolissimo segno qua e là.

Il rivestimento in oro, completamente liscio, elegantissimo e semplice,  si estende dal cappuccio al fusto lungo quasi tutta la superficie, lasciando libera solo l'estremità inferiore della penna ed una piccola parte a metà della penna.

Questa penna è senza clip ed ha l'anellino al top, anch'esso in oro, il tutto molto elegante, pur essendo una penna di "buone" dimensioni e non una lady.

E' una "safety pen", con pennino retrattile ed ancora con caricamento a goccia, per cui è sicuramente uno dei primi modelli della 42, in quanto in seguito questa penna ebbe il caricamento a levetta laterale.

Il suo pennino è un Waterman Ideal, ed è veramente molto molto flessibile, una vera meraviglia, e la lunghezza della penna, chiusa, è di 125,5mm escludendo gli anellini.

Ribadisco l'originalità della penna e soprattutto che sia in condizioni buone.

Questa penna è un oggetto vintage, viene da una bella collezione e non è stata testata per l'uso.

This is an interesting vintage fountain pen by Waterman, about 100 years old, a large model for the time, i.e. 125.5 mm long without considering the rings at the top, model 42, covered in 18k gold, the classic 'gold overlay' so famous in those years, which was typical, of course, of high-end pens.  Usually pens with rings were on average slightly to much smaller than those with clips, and were often considered ladies' pens; this one now on sale is instead as big as the 'big' ones with clips, and is also rather 'chubby', and this is explained by the fact that it is part of the pens of the first years of production of these '18k rolled Gold', between 1918 and 1923, and this also explains why there is no brand name inscription on the surface of the gilding, while the pen is evidently Waterman, not only because of the original nib, but also because it bears the inscription 42 on the ebonite cap.

This pen now for sale is in more than good condition, beautiful and sound, and the gold coating intact and beautiful, with only a few very small marks here and there.

The gold coating, completely smooth, elegant and simple, extends from the cap to the barrel along almost the entire surface, leaving only the lower end of the pen and a small part in the middle.

This pen is clipless and has a ring at the top, also in gold, all very elegant, despite being a 'good' size pen and not a lady.

It is a 'safety pen', with a retractable nib and still with a drop filler, so it is certainly one of the earliest models of the 42, as later this pen had a side toggle filler.

Its nib is a Waterman Ideal, and is really very very flexible, a real marvel, and the length of the pen, closed, is 125.5mm excluding the rings.

I reiterate the originality of the pen and above all that it is in good condition.
