Plaquette en bronze, Saint Jean-Baptiste, XVIIe siècle  ♦  Bronze plaquette, Saint John the Baptist, 17th century

Cette plaquette présente Saint Jean Baptiste en buste de trois-quart légèrement tourné vers la gauche. Vêtu de sa mélote en poils de chameau, il tient un agneau sur un livre, ainsi qu'une bannière dont la hampe est en forme de croix. Autour des bords supérieurs: "NON SUREXIT MAIOR", tiré de l'Evangile selon Saint Mathieu (ch.11, v.11): "non surrexit inter natos mulierum maior Iohanne Baptista" (Parmi ceux qui sont nés d’une femme, personne ne s’est levé de plus grand que Jean le Baptiste).

Très bon état, un anneau de suspension au sommet.

This plaquette depicts Saint John the Baptist as a three-quarter lenght bust facing slightly left. Wearing his camel skin melota, he hold a sheep on a book, as well as a banner whose pole is made of a cross. Arount top edges: "NON SUREXIT MAIOR", from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew (ch.11, v.11): "non surrexit inter natos mulierum maior Iohanne Baptista" (Among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist).

Very good condition, a suspension loop on the top.
