UPRISING (REBELLION) OF THE TYROLESE IN 1809 by F. V. Defregger
1894 Photogravure with Titled Over-leave

The Tyrolean Rebellion is a name given to the resistance of militiamen, peasants, craftsmen and other civilians of the County of Tyrol led by Andreas Hofer supported by his wife Anna and a strategic council consisting of Josef Speckbacher, Peter Mayr, Capuchin Father Joachim Haspinger, Major Martin Teimer and Kajetan Sveth, against new legislation and a compulsory vaccination program concerning smallpox ordered by King Maximilian I of Bavaria, followed by the military occupation of their homeland by troops organised and financed by Napoleon I of the First French Empire and Maximilian I.[2][3] The broader military context is called the War of the Fifth Coalition.

Minor age (light foxing) and handling wear - See picture(s)

A photogravure is an intaglio print process that was used to produce high-quality reproductions of artwork and photographs in ink. Photogravures have a very sensual, almost velvety quality with warm blacks and a charming range of subtle shades of grey. Due to the powdery nature of the ink frequently used, these prints are subject to smudging.

The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.).  While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
