The aim of the seminar was to study selected problems in general practice. The nucleus was formed by five doctors from the original fourteen who helped me to work out our research-cum-training method, and was augmented a year or so later by three more doctors who started their training slightly later but who had already had considerable experience in this kind of seminar. After finishing our study of Night Calls, which was subsequently written up by M. B. Clyne, we turned our attention to three contrasting groups of patients, those suffering respectively from asthma, peptic ulcer, and ulcerative colitis.
