Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Masjid-i Sang and the Mosque of Shahr-i Ij are closely related not only by their technique but by the political geography of the area. The present town of Darab, founded not earlier than the Il-Khanid period, is situated near the edge of a large fertile plain which is a catchment for seasonal streams originating in the surrounding mountain chains. Two roads, one passing through Estabanat and Ij, the other through Fasa, enter Darab from the west and continue as a single road passing to the southeast to in the highway connecting Kirman with Bandar Abbas on the Gulf. In the plain, 8 km. southwest of Darab, lie the remains of ancient Darabgird, a town mentioned in the itineraries of the early Muslim geographers as a main entrepot for trade between Shiraz and the southern coast.
