Such reform and change from within have occurred in every age and in every religion, and not simply in the Catholic Church and other Christian faiths. However, major changes and shifts are taking place at the end of the 20th century with more anticipated in the 21st. Signs of that can clearly be seen in this collection. The Don Bosco Commemorative Chapel of Tokyo Salesian Boys' Home and the Catholic Sendai Diocese Center reflect the basic shift in Vatican policy with respect to architectural form from the basilican type to the hall type. The Tama Cemetery Ossuary and Water Temple reveal powers of architectural conceptualization. The Kannonji Temple of Buzan, the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, and Kohunji Temple reveal the struggle between religion and the individualism of contemporary architectural design, and at Sennenji Temple and St. Andrew's Anglican-Episcoral Church a contemporary refinement of orthodoxy of form has been achieved. The other facilities are also interesting for the way each architect's approach clearly emerges through the design of religious architecture. Whether traditional or contemporary, they are all superb modern buildings. They reflect the different aspects and currents of modernism such as orthodox modernism, postmodernism and deconstructivism.
