This is an antique hand cast Brass metal cattle / cow bell with a striker which was made and used by the African Chamba tribal people who reside south of the Benue River of Nigeria. This is a very heavy solid brass cow bell with years of wear, tarnish, and patina. cowbell (or cow bell) is a bell worn around the neck of free-roaming livestock so herders can keep track of an animal via the sound of the bell when the animal is grazing out of view in hilly landscapes or out on vast plains. Although they are typically referred to as "cow bells" due to their extensive use with cattle, the bells are used on a wide variety of animals including goats. Good tribally used antique condition with patina and wear. This African bell measures 7.23 inches tall by 4 inches wide across the bottom mouth of the bell with an outer circumference of 12.50 inches around the bottom and weighs 15 ounces. I combine shipping on multiple buys so please be sure to check out my eBay store Mountainamma's Marketplace where I have thousands of items to browse through from Africa and beyond.
