This is a 1926 American Independence Sesquicentennial half dollar commemorative coin. This coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It also marks the first occasion in which a US President’s portrait appeared on a coin during his lifetime. Usually, US Presidential portraits on coinage are reserved as a posthumous honor only.


Coin features double portrait of George Washington, first US President, and Calvin Coolidge, the then acting 30th US President.
