A properly fitted saddle can make long distance riding less fatiguing and more helpful when pedaling, making it easier and more enjoyable to ride. Therefore, it is important to choose a properly fitted saddle.
Step 1 Measure the width of your sit bones
1. Use a corrugated cardboard or slow-rebound cushion and sit on it.
2. The tip of your sit bones will leave two indentations in the corrugated cardboard.
3. Use a pen to mark the point at the center of the depression and measure the distance between the two points.
Step 2 Choose your cushion width
Normally, +2cm from the seatbones width is enough to figure out your saddle width, but the riding style is also crucial to the choice of saddle width. The more upright the seating position, the wider the saddle width, which is why the saddles on commuter bikes are very wide, while the saddles on competitive bikes tend to be very slender.
Seat bone width + 2cm (or refer to the chart below) = ideal saddle width.
Step 3 Install the saddle correctly
Saddle Height
When the saddle is at the right height, with your feet flat on the pedals and your thighs slightly bent (about 80-90% of straight).
Cushion position
When the cranks/pedals are in the 3 o'clock position, the knees should be aligned with the front feet, which can be fine-tuned with the screws on the bottom of the saddle.
Cushion level
Under normal circumstances, the saddle should be parallel to the ground and if adjusted, should not exceed 1-2°.
