First Edition

With a foreword by Jack Lindsay.

Lysistrata is one of the world's great masterpieces of dramatic humour. Written more than 2,300 years ago it is no dry as dust relic but a living, breathing, frolicsome, fun loving, laughter provoking book as relevant to the times today as it was 2,300 years ago.

Although the basic idea is serious, very serious - the stopping of wars, Aristophanes took the most amusing incidents to underline points of morale. Imagine the consternation of the men of Greece when the women, under the leadership of Lysistrata, band together and agree to withhold themselves from all men until wars cease.

The natural actions and reactions of both men and women make these lusty pages Aristophanes' brightest, most tantalising rib-tickling comedies.
