Spelter Early twentieth-century Art Nouveau and Art Deco figures and lamps were often made of spelter. The metal has been used since about the 1860's to make statues, and lamps that resemble bronze.

In the second decade of the 20th century increases in the production of spelter arose from copper production being utilized for military munitions during WWI. There was a lack of copper for bronze-making thus pushing forward spelter as a notable decorative material of choice. There are beautiful examples of craftsmanship from this era.
