WEDGWOOD ELKINGTON RARE BOWL VICTORIAN ELECTROPLATED PORCELAIN

Description

WEDGWOOD ELKINGTON EXTREMELY RARE SUGAR BOWL VICTORIAN ELECTROPLATED PORCELAIN

Extremely rare Wedgwood Elkington experimental object created during the 19th century. I believe Wedgwood & Elkington collaborated on many occasions.  I do not know if Wedgwood supplied blanks for this purpose or Elkington acquired a variety of old blanks for electroplating trials.  This unglazed object would have been coated in a metallic compound then placed in an electroplate bath.  On close inspection there is a copper layer below the silver layer.  The result is quite stunning.

Marks: WEDGWOOD and other stamped marks (see photo).  This rare 18th century mark which suggests the electroplater acquired damaged items or Wedgwood supplied archive rejects.  It is reasonable to assume this pot was manufactured decades prior to electroplating.

Bad internal hairline cracks which can't be seen from the exterior, which backs up my theory this was a damaged or reject pot prior to plating.  Sadly lacking a cover.

Dimensions: approx 4½ inches maximum width.
