THIS AUCTION IS FOR

SET OF TWO

NEAR 100 YEAR OLD

THEODORE HAVILAND & CO

LIMOGES FRANCE

"PARADISE" PATTERN

FORMAL DINNER
DELUXE
RIMMED SOUP / CEREAL BOWLS

7 1/2" RIMMED SOUP / CEREAL BOWL

A wise woman once said, "A complete service for 12 should always have 13-14 of each piece. You never know!" and "You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too much Haviland....."

Haviland & Co. is a manufacturer of Limoges porcelain. David Haviland was an American businessman from New York dealing with porcelain. While seeking out new business interests, he arrived in Limoges, France and by 1842, he was able to send his first shipment of Limoges porcelain to the United States. He was also key in adopting a new process by which to decorate porcelain pieces developed in 1873.

In 1890, David Haviland's son, Théodore Haviland, built a very large and prominent factory in Limoges and introduced a variety of new processes for firing and decorating porcelain pieces. The Haviland company has since been overseen by grandson William Haviland, and great-grandson Theodore Haviland II.

Haviland & Co. is still operating as Haviland Company, though the facilities are now modernized and now sell silverware, crystal, and giftware in addition to porcelain.

Haviland identification is difficult as there are over 30,000 patterns and variations. To make it harder, most patterns do not have factory-given names. Only about 6,000 have been identified and cataloged in the Schleiger system. For those "named" patterns, many pieces left the factory without the proper pattern name marked on it. Even when whole sets are purchased, you will find pieces in the set without the pattern name or for pieces with multiple parts, some of the parts may lack the pattern name or even the Haviland mark. Thank you! Mr. Haviland!!

THE MARK OF QUALITY

This fine china was part of an inventory removed from the estate of an avid antique china collector after she died and the owners sold the home. This rare and very lovely china is about 100 years old. Most of this collection revolves around Theodore Haviland's early 1920's - 1930's china in the "PILGRIM" shape, all made out of the same shape molds, just decorated with different designs.

This auction is for a very hard to find piece of Theodore Haviland china as described. The pattern name is PARADISE. It is in the Haviland Pilgrim form. This is a simply enchanting set designed by Haviland & Company of Haviland Pottery in Limoges, France. If you check around, you will find magazine ads for this pattern dating to the mid-1920's.

RIMMED SOUP / CEREAL BOWL
LIKE NEW!
SET OF TWO

Rimmed soup bowls are used for serving soups, salads, and pastas, usually in a formal setting. They add a touch of elegance. These bowls range in size from 7" to 10.” Many manufacturers substitute the rimmed soup bowl for the bread and butter plate as part of the typical 5-piece place setting.

Rim shapes typically have a flat, distinct edge that ranges in width from 1½" to 2½.” Rim shapes are used for plates, bowls, saucers, and platters. The point at which the rim ends and the center portion of the plate begins is known as the verge line.

Rims on bowls keep slobs like me from slurping soup directly from the bowl at formal WHITE HOUSE dinners.

They were among an estate's china set consisting of Haviland Ganga and Haviland Coromandel and others. If you look at them, they are almost alike in many ways. They were produced about the same time, 1920's. They have the same basic Haviland Pilgrim shape. The borders, floral design and birds are very similar, particularly on the serving pieces. The pieces offered in this listing are ALL PARADISE.

Haviland's Paradise, the twin to Haviland's Chambord pattern. The only difference between the two is Chambord has a cream band around it, while Paradise has an all white body. Same shapes, same designs, same edge trim. It is also very similar to Haviland Eden and Blois.

This auction is for a very hard to find piece of Theodore Haviland china. The pattern on this piece is called "PARADISE". The bottom is marked "Theodore Haviland, Limoges, France" This mark was used by Theodore Haviland from about 1920 - 1935.

Condition: This piece of vintage china is about 90+ years old. A miracle it survived this long. See Pics.

We are committed to providing you a 5-star experience when you deal with us. If we miss the mark, please let us know before you leave any feedback.

Please Note: Under the new Ebay seller standards policies, leaving less than 5 stars on the detailed seller rating now has an overall negative impact on the seller's account. Ebay does have ways of affecting a seller's account because of the ratings. Even Neutral feedback has a negative effect on a seller's ratings. I will promptly submit my feedback as soon as yours has been posted. Thank you!

Mechanical device disclaimer: Every mechanical device has a certain life span. The day it leaves the factory, it becomes one day closer to its end date. When I find these devices, I plug them in, wind them up or put in a battery. If they buzz, whirr or seem like they're doing what they are supposed to be doing, I keep them for auction. At that point in time, I have NO IDEA of how old or how much use they have incurred. They may last a lifetime or fail the next time they are turned on. Therefore, I sell these as "Decorative or Ornamental purposes" only, not functional. Which may be referred to as "AS IS".

Note: On some items, UPC symbols may have been removed for rebate purposes.

International Buyers – Please Note:
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

Other information a seller may wish to include:
These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.

We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
