Two volumes bound in the original green ribbed cloth (in two slightly differing shades), with titles and vignette in gilt on the spines, and vignette of dragoon on horseback stamped in blind on both top and bottom boards. Very good condition, Volume One having a pull to the head of the spine, some marks to the top board and the ownership inscription of 'John Lomax, Clayton Hall' on the endpaper, Volume Two having one light mark to the top board and a slight lean, . In both volumes the engraved frontispiece and title page are foxed, the other plates have less foxing, diminishing through the books, later plates with foxing mainly confined to the very edges. There are occasional scatters of light foxing to the text pages, and light offsetting from the plates, otherwise clean and bright. 23.5cm, 9.25 inches, tall. Volume I, 6 page publisher's catalogue, ix, list of plates, 348 pages. Illustrated with frontispiece, engraved title page and 20 further plates. Volume II, v, list of plates, 336 pages. Illustrated with frontispiece, engraved title page and 20 further plates. Illustrations filled with drama by Phiz (Hablot Browne), illustrator of many works by Dickens.
