Lukyanov Miron Vladimirovich (1936–2007)

Soviet and Russian poster artist, teacher. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1970). Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1993).

Born in Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow Secondary Art School (1954), Moscow State Art Institute. V. I. Surikov (1960), studied in the poster workshop with M. M. Cheremnykh, N. A. Ponomarev. He performed film posters for the publishing house "Reklamfilm" (1959–1970). Since 1961, he worked in the field of socio-political posters in the publishing houses “Fine Art”, “Soviet Artist”, “Plakat”, “Malysh” and others. Since 1962, he collaborated with the “Agitplakat” workshop of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Worked in the Visual Agitation Workshop of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR (1968–1990); made posters for the Mosconcert publishing house. Since 1978 – taught at Moscow State Academy of Arts named after V. I. Surikov; professor since 1994.

Working in posters, he addressed the themes of space, the armed forces, science and production, education of schoolchildren and youth, in the 1970s and 80s he created a number of posters dedicated to October and pioneer life (“We are pioneers of the Soviet country, there are millions of us. Our leader is the Komsomol ”, 1978; “Rules of Octobers”, “Octobers are diligent guys, love school, respect their elders”, “Octobers are future pioneers”, “Only those who love work are called Octoberists”, all -1982). Some works were created in collaboration with fellow students at the institute (Karakashev, Levshunova, Ostrovsky). He created posters for documentaries (“It’s Time for a Big Housewarming”, 1959) and famous feature films (“Striped Flight”, 1961; “Burning Island”, 1961; “Without Fear and Reproach”, 1962; “The Black Seagull”, 1962; “The Scam” in the casino", "Taste of Fresh Wind", "Rainy Sunday", all -1963; "Three plus two", "Me, Grandma, Iliko and Hilarion", "Spring Troubles", "Shot in the Fog", all -1964; “Resident Error”, 1968; “White Sun of the Desert”, 1970 and many others).

Miron Lukyanov is one of those who introduced new aesthetics, a new plastic idea and beauty into political posters. As a rule, this was not in the posters of that time. The poster artists of the older generation are being replaced by young artists: V. S. Karakashev, L. Ya. Levshunova, M. V. Lukyanov, V. I. Ostrovsky - the “Cheremnykhovites” of the last wave, who breathed new aesthetic thinking into the poster world. Participated in regional, republican, all-Union, international poster exhibitions, exhibitions of Soviet posters abroad; repeatedly became a laureate of competitions and was awarded honorary diplomas and prizes.
