The matched left and right fork top covers, or “headlamp ears” are important components in the front fork assembly as they mount the headlamp shell and the left cover also houses the ignition switch. Sold as a pair.
The black painted stamped steel covers are formed to cover the top of the fork tubes between the upper and lower fork yokes. The left cover features an integrated tower for mounting the ignition switch, while the right cover has a hole for a grommet to guide the throttle cable through the ear. Made in the UK and correct for the 1968-1970 500 and 650 twins.
The covers locate the headlamp shell and feature slots for alignment of the headlamp assembly. The covers must be fitted during the fork tube installation.
The covers are fitted over the lower fork yoke and held in place by the pinch bolts, while the fork tubes are pulled up through the lower yoke then located into the top yoke through the top of each cover. Once the fork top nuts are threaded in to the fork tubes, the covers are captured in place and the pinch bolts can be tightened.
