This stone knife/sheath is an example of a man’s knife that would’ve been used before the white man came. The blade is chert and the handle is ash from the area, the sheath is rawhide sewn with a strip of wet rawhide. The blade is held in the handle with a glue of pitch and charcoal and then wrapped with wet sinew. When dry I coat this with a little waterproof sealer to make it resistant to water. I painted it with mineral paints I made from red ochre and a yellow stone I find locally (probably limonite “yellow ochre”) the black is manganese dioxide ore and these are mixed with a binder and painted on with a strip of yucca leaf like they did centuries before paintbrushes. This is a fully functional piece, it cuts with a sawing motion and you never pry with it.
