In the original cloth, with titles in red lettering on the upper boards and to spine, with a large square colour illustration to the upper board after a watercolour by Anton Pieck.

 Page initials are printed in red, Title-vignettes are by A. Pieck. In 137 pages with 111 pages of introductory text, a biography of Franz Schubert and an essay on his vocal work; and 112 pages of music-scores with text in German, illustrated with eight tinted plates, a concise Schubert bibliography, and a register of personal names.  

The second part of 112 pages lists 33 vocal compositions by Franz Schubert (music-scores with German text), accompanied by 16 very fine coloured plates (versos blank), all after original watercolours by Anton Pieck. 

The volume was published during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, 1940-1945. 

A very good copy with beautiful plates by Anton Pieck, a famous Dutch illustrator.

There is light shelfwear. There is light scattered foxing to the first and last two leaves. There is a 1947 previous owner's inscription to the front blank endpaper. All plates are bright, fresh, and crisp. There are no missing, loose, creased, stained or damaged pages. The block and binding are solid. It is complete and original.
