Thunder TM35306 1/35 LRDG F30 Gun Truck CMP in LRDG Service Plastic model
Very early in the history of the LRDG it was recognized that patrols could be at risk of ambush attacks by enemy armored vehicles.
- To counter this potential threat, the last truck of each patrol was equipped with some type of light artillery.
- The Bofors 37mm gun was installed on the WB and Ford F30, but was quite unpopular with soldiers because it added weight to the vehicle and took up too much space.
- As enemy armored vehicles were rarely encountered, some Bofors guns were sometimes removed by truck crews to make room for supplies.
- LRDG's Bofors gun trucks typically carried 45 AP and 45 HE rounds.
- In addition, it was mounted on a special gun mount and could rotate 360 degrees, and the height of the tilt plate on the loading platform was lowered to provide a better field of fire for the gun.
