The 1956 Winter Olympics, officially known as the VII Olympic
Winter Games and commonly known as Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956, was a
multi-sport event held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, from 26 January to 5
February 1956.
Design comprises of a stylized snowflake, on a blue field, containing
the olympic rings emblem crowned by a star.
This is the emblem of the
Italian National Olympic Committee.
An illustration of a large mountain
outcrop overlooking a town represents the host city, Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Inscription, within circumference of the snowflake, reads in Italian:
'VII GIOCHI OLIMPICI D'INVERNO/CORTINA D'AMPEZZO 1956'.
