FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE....!

Found in an estate liquidation on the island of Madeira in Portugal, that of a retired antiques dealer.

Found being used as a jewelry box...... Antique candy box, labeled as illustrated,"Cadbury Chocolates, Cadbury`s Cocoa, Bournville"

Dating from the late 1800s, the box was meant to be repurposed as a catch/all, trinket, jewelry or sewing box.

A wooden body is covered with velvet.  Lined with a glossy paper, fitted with Nickle plated hardware.

Measures 9 1/2 inches accross, 5 1/2 inches  wide, standing just about 2 1/2 inches high.

After over 100 years of use, in the same family, the current condition of the box is just FAIR.

There is heavy wear and loss to the pile of the fabric on most edges.  It is very faded.  The hardware has dulled from age and it appears to have lost its four ball feet.

The paper on the interior has a few faint discolorations as well.

I inserted a standard size playing card in one photo as a reference for size.

MUCH OBLIGED...
