FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE....!

 

Found in an estate liquidation on the island of Madeira in Portugal.

Made in Portugal by the Ceres factory in Coimbra, a Portuguese Language Idiomatic Expressions tile.

Printed in a traditional blue on white, the tile is a friendly warning to someone that is about to enter your house. 

(Found with a literal translation, in English, on the back.)

It loosely translates as a general welcome to any that claim to be a friendly visitor, however,  if you are not, you better stay in the street.

The tile measures 6 inches square and has survived free of distracting chips or cracks.  I have illustrated a small nick in the glaze on the very edge of the tile, lower left side facing.

A rust spot on the back indicates it originally had some kind of hanging loop attached...... that was lost.   

I inserted a standard size playing card in one photo as a reference for size.
