Thislisting is for ONE capsule containing TWO smallerpieces, a card of provenance and authenticity, a printout of the tests run onyour pieces in 2001, and a printout with further details about your specimen.Obviously the specimen you receive may not be the exact one/ones photographed - I can send a photo of your sample before posting if you wish; just ask! Very rare to get your hands on in the UK and rare enough as it is just aboutanywhere else in the world. Only found at the site of the Trinity atomic testin the White Sands Proving Grounds near Alamogordo, New Mexico, United States, and everything collected from the site was taken between 1945 and 1953 beforecollection was no longer allowed and the rest was bulldozed and buried by USArmy Engineers. It is a glassy mineral formed during the vitrification of thesand of the Alamogordo Desert when that sand was evaporated upon being suckedinto the fireball, and during the detonation, of the "Gadget".Created at exactly 5:29AM on Monday 16th July 1945 - a WW2 relic of theManhattan Project.

Thesespecimens come directly from the Ralph Pray/Millstone collection. Dr. RalphPray collected these in 1951 while in the military and stationed at the WhiteSands Proving Grounds, a photograph of which is printed on the card you willreceive with your capsule. His collection is well documented in the book"The Atomic Age Mineral" by W.M. Kolb. When Dr. Ralph Pray passedaway in May 2014, his collection (of approximately 2,000 pounds) was purchasedby the Millstone family. Included are the test results received with thecollection confirming the authenticity of the pieces. The tests were performedby W.M. Kolb, and show the levels of Cs 137 and Eu 152 in the Millstone/Praypieces as compared to the R.H. Draeger pieces.

Caringfor your piece: Safeto handle, do not eat/swallow. It is a form of glass so it can be very fragileand if not handled properly, can break. Do not apply pressure to it. Normalhandling is fine. When mounting in a display, be sure that it is mounted snuglyso it does not move around. But, do not apply pressure to any part of the pieceas this can cause it to break. If possible, use a cotton-mounted displaycontainer so that there is a slight bit of give when pressure is applied, sothat when the lid is attached, there will be no pressure on the specimen.
