According to Rebecca Tobey, on this sculpture,

“In Northwest Coast mythology, The Raven is the trickster which, selfish and hungry, will do anything to change the world by deceiving others in its never-ending quest for food.

When we were at Admiralty Island, off the Alaskan Coast, the eagles fed on fish parts left from the daily catch. They were not the only interested parties in the treetops, However. Ravens roosted in an opposite bank of trees. Both groups called to each other in a raucous fight over the spoils. Trickster represents the raven contingent.” – Rebecca Tobey
