This is among a large number of playbills currently being listed from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare January 11th, 1926 combined "Shubert Playbill" from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the OSCAR STRAUS and HARRY B. SMITH musical "NAUGHTY RIQUETTE" at the Sam S. Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The Original Broadway production would open September 13th, 1926 at New York's Cosmopolitan Theatre and run for 88 performances.) ..... The musical starred MITZI HAJOS and featured STANLEY LUPINO, GEORGE A. SCHILLER, AUDREY MAPLE, ALEXANDER GRAY, MARY MARLOWE, EDWARD BASSE, WALTER ARMIN, SYDNEY SMITH, JOSEPH SPREE, WALTER WARE, PETER HAWLEY, CONNIE EMERALD, PEGGY BROWNE, MARIETTA O'BRIEN, KATRINE TRASK, BOBBIE LEE, GERTRUDE DE WITT, VICTOIRE DUTEL, SYLVAN LEE and JANE MOORE ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "You May 'Yes' Today", "A Letter of Farewell", "Plant Roses In Memory's Garden", "Wait a Bit" and "You've Got To Be an Acrobat" which were cut out-of-town ..... CREDITS: Music by OSCAR STRAUS; Book and Lyrics by HARRY B. CONDITION: (Please Note!) There is light soiling to the front cover, tearing and paper residue on the back cover (last scanned image), the start of a split at the top seam and minor edge wear. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
