Miscelanea Structura Curiosa by Samuel Chearnley Edited by William Laffin
Large oversized hardback published in 2005 by Churchill House Press.
Samuel Chearnley, cousin of the Parsons family, now Earls of Rosse at Birr Castle, created these architectural drawings of garden follies and landscapes.
In Ireland in 1747 he worked with his patron Sir Lawrence Parsons designing grotoes, ruins, 'surprises', fountains obelisques and pavillions. None of these, sadly, saw the light of day other than on paper as Samuel Chearnley died suddenly and mysteriously aged 29. This is a facsimile of his drawings with scholarly - sometimes indeed risquee - interpretation, by William Laffan, Toby Barnard and Christine Casey.
