A beautiful putto statue of a taste of honey. Hand carved lightweight wood weighing 12 oz. Painted with beautiful detail. In good vintage condition with some light signs of wear. It measures approximately 12" tall and base is 3" wide.

The depiction suggests the nickname of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, given to him by his contemporaries because of his gift for preaching. They called him "Doctor mellifluus" (honey-flowing teacher) because words flowed from his mouth like honey. The figure further refers to the diligence of bees and to temptation.
