Carpathian Biosphere Reserve is located within the Transcarpathian region. Occupies an area of 58035 hectares. Together with the transit zone, it is part of the UNESCO International Network of Biosphere Reserves and presents all the landscape and biological diversity of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Its beech virgin forests form the largest part of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site "Beech virgin forests and ancient forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe". The reserve includes 64 species of plants and 72 species of animals listed in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Red Book of Ukraine, as well as in the European Red List.
The reserve is the only one in Ukraine awarded by the Council of Europe with the European Diploma for Environmental Protection.
