Civil War cover with Jan. 5, 1863 dated BOSTON/MASS. red postmark and pair of #65 3c rose tied by 2 strikes of PAID in oval handstamps,  addressed to "Rev. A. H. Quint, Chaplain 2nd Mass. Reg. Vol., Gen. Morrell's Division, near Fairfax Station, Va., via Washington, D.C."

Addressed to Rev. Alonzo Hall Quint, (1828-1896), a graduate of Dartmouth College in 1846, and Andover Theological Seminary in 1852; During the Civil War, he served as Chaplain of the 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, 1861-1864. Pastor of the North Congregational Church in New Bedford, MA, 1864-1875; He was the first Chaplain-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).   

Includes the original lengthy 5 pg. letter enclosure, dated at Boston, Jan. 3, 1863,  with good content, urging Quint to return to Boston as the pastor of the writer's church, using every argument he can think of to convince Quint.
