Hello and welcome to the Textile Trunk!

A wonderful , RARE cat Tongue designed area rug ~ This little Rug is all hand made and dates from 1930's-1940? It's ideal for use but also a great design inspiration piece ~ This textile reminds me so much of other textiles that were made during the depression and later, ingenious repurposing ~ It came from an American family whose grandmother made rugs in the early years of her marriage. This is one of her rugs~ It's SO unique, I just had to have it. I found 3 of these matching rugs, to see the others simply search my store for the word " cat " This textile uses a black felt as the body of the oval designs and the edges are all hand stitched , trimmed with cotton. There is a heavy weight upholstery fabric in the middle, woven with a hemp weft and a heavy rayon?? ( rayon was invented in 1883) warp thread ~ The back is hessian, no doubt it was a farmer's grain sack that was repurposed ~

Measurements : approximately 44 inches at the longest by about 21 inches at the widest ~

CONDITION : Lovely condition with light signs of time and use to be expected for a vintage rug ~*~ The front central fabric has wear , on every corner ( please see photographs) exposing the hem thread ~ There are other small areas of this also on this piece. I LOVE the way this look as it gives it charm and character. It's still wonderfully sturdy. There is fading on the edging ~ ~ ~ please use the zoom feature on the photographs to see exactly ~ not perfect but perfectly amazing and rare indeed ~gorgeous with signs of time and use ~*~
