SHATTUCKITE - 7.6 cm - Specimen or Rough?

NEW CORNELIA MINE, ARIZONA

This could be a rare mineral specimen or rare rough for cabbing.

Shattuckite from this mine often has ajoite associated with it. This piece was windowed to show a thick vein of shattuckite with minor ajoite in the shattuckite and in the surrounding matrix.

Shattuckite and ajoite are classified + rare by Lapis.

The mine at Ajo was closed in the early 1980's. Miners had collected substantial quantities of this shattuckite material and sold it over the next decades. Not much of this is seen now. This is the original shattuckite cutting material. It is silicated and produces a dark blue cut stone.

Photographed dry.
