Tin Type Photographs were first made in the 1850's and became one of the most popular types of photography during its peak in the 1860's and 1870's.  This photograph is believed to have been taken some time between the 1850's and 1900, unless otherwise noted.

Tin Types are thin pieces of metal with a photographic image them.  These were first used in formal photographic studios but later were commonly made by photographers working in booths at fairs and carnivals.  The tin type photograph could be given to the subjects in the photo minutes after taking.  They can be oddly shaped and crudely cut by the original photographer.
