Rare! Great special vintage piece from 1963.
This is a plaster sculpture of bodybuilder Tony Lanza flexing his muscles.
Tony Lanza was also the official photographer for the Weider Empire which established the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition.
The artist was Joseph Guardo, an immigrant from Italy who established his art studio in Canada.
Please see photo of artist in his Montreal studio working on Ben Weider scultpure.
Overall good condition though there are many white spots where the black finish has flaked off. Can be touched up with paint. Weighs about 3.7 lbs.
I do not know how many were cast from the original sculpture. There is no number, nor much information on the web on Guardo's Weider series.
Please see photos.
Measures 10 inches tall.
Overall volume about 8" x 5" x 10"
