    Here's some essential information & know-how:
    > Even when you want to record exclusively on CF card, it is *required* to insert a tape cassette into the HVR-Z1E camcorder, otherwise it will refuse to operate further.

    > HVR-Z1E hours meter readings are as follows: Operation = 154x10H, Drum Run = 90x10H, Tape Run = 54x10H, Threading - 159x10. (See photo #23.)

    > In case an incorrectly formatted CF card is inserted into HVR-MRC1 memory recording unit, "FORMAT ERROR" may be displayed on the HVR-MRC1. If this happens, push the "STOP" button to go to the format operation menu ("MENU > DELETE > FORM > OK").
    > The HVR-MRC1 shown here has been updated with the latest existing firmware: V03. (See photo #5, right-hand side.)

    > Here are some basic procedures for recording on CF cards, using the HVR-Z1E + HVR-MRC1K set:

    1/ The HD shooting mode (HDV format), in which we used the camera & recorder the most, is as follows: "Continuous recording to CF card with start/stop recording to tape". (Knowing that in fact, we never start recording on tape, since with this camcorder the worn tape heads do not handle the HDV format well.)
    - Turn "OFF" the "CAM LINK" button of memory recording unit.
    - For HVR-Z1E camcorder: Select "IN OUT REC > EXT REC CTRL > REC CTL MODE > OFF".
    - Push the "REC" buttons (BOTH buttons!) of HVR-MRC1 to start recording.

    2/ We found another shooting method rather useful: "Simultaneous recording to digital tape & CF memory card". (Knowing that in fact, in HDV, although the tape is running, we will not use its content.)
    - Push the HVR-MRC1 "CAM LINK" button to turn it "ON".
    - For HVR-MRC1 recording unit: Select "MENU > SETTING > CAMLINK SEL > SYNCHRO".
    - HVR-Z1E cam: Select "MENU > IN OUT REC > EXT REC CTRL > REC CTL MODE > SYNCHRONOUS".
    - Push the camcorder's "REC START/STOP" button to start recording.

    3/ There are several other settings & combinations of procedures for recording shots on CF card and/or on tape. They are described, for example, in the PDFs mentioned above, as well as in the HVR-Z1E & HVR-MRC1 user manuals.
