This is an original c-1900 Embalming Class Photo with Mr. A.J. Dodge in first row, #4 from the left. This is my consignor's family's photo which has his great grandfather in the 3rd row, top left, who was the owner of a Michigan funeral home started in 1880. This is an original photo in the original framed and measures approx 15" by 20" including the frame. A.J. Dodge was the founder of the Dodge Chemical Co. of Massachusetts. Family history says this class photo was taken in Cincinnati, Ohio? In 1890 Mr. Dodge went on the road as an Embalming teacher. Dodge's school was based in Boston in 1910 and was named the New England Institute. Mr. Dodge traveled by train across the Country teaching short Embalming courses and would then hope his students would purchase his products known today as the Dodge Chemical Company. Please see the pictures of the framed original photo for best description. This lot also comes with a 16-page booklet titled "A very informal history of The Dodge Chemical Co." - see close up photo of a picture on page 2 of this booklet of "The Founding Father, A. Johnson Dodge, sat for his portrait in 1922." Also comes with a letter dated October 21, 1992 from Arnold J. Dodge of the Dodge Chemical Company - a third generation Dodge.

Condition: As shown in the pictures above. Gilt frame has some chipping. The photo has a tear in the upper right as shown, as does the matting in that area. Overall very nice for its age. See pictures above for best description of condition.
