This is a nice old model 7. May have been a 7c and the cabinet is no longer present. I have tested all the tubes and they are matched well with one being alittle lower than the others. Many good photos of the inside. The faceplate has a lot of scratches and marks that didn’t seem to wanna clean up, but that adds to the well loved vintage vibe. The Bakelite switches have been replaced. The following information is from the internet and most of it applies to this listing:

The Marantz Model 7 and 7C are vintage stereo preamplifiers that share many similarities. Both models have a classic design and were popular in their time. The main difference between the two is the enclosure: the Model 7C has a wooden case, while the original Model 7 does not.

The Model 7 was in production for more than 12 years, with sales of over 130,000 units. It remained essentially the same throughout its production, with only minor updates. The Model 7C simply signifies that the chassis was mounted in a wooden case.

Some audiophiles may have a preference for the original Model 7’s appearance or the Model 7C’s wooden enclosure. However, both models are considered to have similar sound quality, as they share the same internal components and design.

In terms of sound quality, the Marantz Model 7 and 7C are known for their warm, vintage sound. However, some users have noted that the RIAA sections in both models are AC-coupled from the first to the second tubes, and their EQ is active and driven by cathode followers. Additionally, the choice of tubes (ECC83) may not be the best for some audiophiles.

Ultimately, the choice between the Marantz Model 7 and 7C may come down to personal preference, budget, and the availability of the specific model.

This is not the same preamp I sold last week. The faceplate is alittle better.
