This is a pair of previously-owned “Hey Diddle Diddle” nursery rhyme sculptures designed for Tomart (New Orleans) in 1999. The first features the dish running off with the spoon, while the second features the cat and the fiddle. Both are signed on the back by the artist and have built-in hangers.
“Hey Diddle Diddle” is an English nursery rhyme. It may date back to at least the sixteenth century. Some references suggest it dates back in some form a thousand or more years: in early medieval illuminated manuscripts a cat playing a fiddle was a popular image.
