Vintage 1940 Polka Dot Dress Sheer Shirtwaist Bodice Lined Full Skirt Peak-a-Boo

Description: Presented here is an on-the-beam vintage 1940s Polka Dot dress, and hot diggity dog, is it the killer diller! You’ll be a real ducky shincracker in this beautiful confection, making everyone doll dizzy when they see you. (Okay, enough with the ‘40’s slang!). The dress is eggplant or deep purple in color with vibrant white printed dots. It is made of sheer organdy, unlined at the bodice; lined with heavy black organdy at the skirt. The bodice is a shirt waist in design, with six white manufactured buttons at the front. The high, folded-over collar is made of white windowpane piquè. Between the collar and buttons is an open area – a sexy peek-a-poo slit. The bodice is sheer, with raglan sleeves, the cuffs are bordered by the same white folded windowpane fabric. The shoulders have small, sewn-in pads. The heavily-gathered skirt is wide and full and lined with a heavier organdy in black. The center back has a long, hidden zipper, which extends well onto the skirt. There is a hook-and-eye closure to secure the collar. There are also two cord loops for a belt at either side of the bodice/skirt waist (not included). A thin or wide white belt would be a perfect addition. This is a gorgeous vintage dress, still very appropriate to wear today. So much nicer ‘in person’!

Approximate Measurements: Total length, top of front collar to skirt hem, 45 inches; Shoulder to shoulder front/back, 23 inches; Bust (underarm seam to underarm seam doubled), 34 inches; Waist (at bodice/skirt junction doubled), 26 inches; Skirt length waist to hem, 29 inches; Sleeves top of collar to cuff hem, 11 inches; Sleeves bottom seam to dress hem 1 inch (little extension under the arm); Collar opening 13 inches; Skirt hem circumference, 86 inches.

Condition Report: Excellent vintage condition. There are two easily-repairable tears at the waist seam (2-1/2 inches in back, 1-1/2 inches in front) that need attending.

The photos and/or scans are a crucial element of the description and are to be considered just as important as the description. I ask that you study them closely. The photos shown are of the actual item. Review them carefully, as you may notice a flaw I missed. I cannot stress this enough: If you have any questions regarding the condition of an item, need additional photos, exacting measurements, or anything else, PLEASE message me! I will be happy to accommodate you.

Be aware that most of the items I offer are antique or vintage – they may have been pre-owned and used. As a result, they could have flaws commensurate with age and use, and are sold as-is. Unless stated in the description or condition report, these may not be immediately noticeable. If you expect a new, pristine-condition item please think carefully before you bid. I must stress this as some bidders have expected immaculate items with no signs of previous use. If you are not accustomed to antique or vintage items, please ask questions before bidding.
