Description

Parker introduced the Slimfold in 1962. Like the rest of the British Duofold collection of the 1960's it came in 4 colors - Red, Green, Blue, and Black, with Green being the hardest to find. The trim is gold-plated and is in excellent condition. I don't see any brassing at all. On this model, Parker also dropped the ball clip end for an arrow shaped design.

The pen is an Aerometric filler only (so no ink cartridges, but any color of bottled ink you wish), which still works fine after all these years. The sac is made of a material Parker called 'Pli-glass'. Parker stated that this material would last at least 30 years. I don't think I've ever found a bad one. So, a rather conservative estimate by Parker! The sac is protected by what Parker refers to as a 'hoop tube'. I ran water through the sac, and then ultrasonically cleaned all of the components. The Pli-glass sac functions just fine.

I don't see any bad scratches, nicks, gouges or bite marks anywhere on the cap or barrel. Just the usual normal fine marks and blemishes from daily use. The barrel imprint is worn, but easily readable: 'PARKER SLIMFOLD 3 MADE IN ENGLAND'. The '3' is the date code, so  1963 and probably the 4th quarter. The narrow cap band has the same chevron pattern as was used on Parker's Vacumatics.

As mentioned earlier, the color of this pen is Black. The Slimfold was introduced in 1962, and in 1968, Parker redesigned the cap and clip more in line to what was used on the Parker 45. The date code on the barrel was only used on the original design, so this one is prior to 1968. It was redesigned again in 1971, now a cartridge filler, and the model was discontinued in 1975. It was only manufactured at Parker's plants in England and Denmark. The Danish Slimfolds have a Christian Olsen anchor imprinted on the barrel, who was under contract to manufacture pens for Parker.

The thing I like most about this pen is the 14K Solid Gold #5 nib. They are very good writers.  An extremely good looking imprint: 'PARKER 14K ENGLAND 5. The '5' denotes a Slimfold. Tine alignment looks perfect. I dipped the pen to create the writing sample and it lays down about an 'EF/F' line - quite stiff and very smooth. I really like the way this nib writes.

This is a very nice example of a Parker Slimfold. This is certainly a very collectible pen., or  would make a great daily writer. It is a very cool piece of Parker's history.
