Three German Claret Jugs /Ewers

Two of the three are very rare & hand-painted

Two of the three are amber glass

1. Amber Glass Claret Jug

Wide Ribbed glass expands out at the base

Top and stopper seem to be pewter (non-magnetic metal)

Very decorative with bird, angel/cherub heads & foliage. The details on the design of this piece are quite intricate.

This piece stands 7" Tall without stopper in place and 7½" Tall with the stopper in place. The base measures 3⅛" in Diameter.

The stopper appears to be a bird in flight with its wings stretched wide. I believe, based on my research, this is the original stopper for this piece

2. Armorial Crests Claret Jug with a crown (Signifying a castle) centered above. Could the crests signify that this Claret Jug was used at a wedding between two prominent families of the time?

The stopper is rounded at the top with what looks like a painted flower. The flower looks as though there may have been a small air bubble in one of the feathers when it was painted. I'm reluctant to say that this stopper is original to this vessel, but this particular Claret Jug is too rare to find a match with a different stopper. There appears to be initials, numbers, or a symbol on the bottom of the stopper (see photos)

This piece stands 6½" Tall without the stopper in place and 7¼" with the stopper in place. It expands out quite a bit at the base. The base is 4¼" in diameter.

3. Hand-painted Enameled Munich Child Amber Glass Claret Jug

The front of the piece features a beautifully executed hand painted image of the Munich Child, a motif which is based upon the German city’s coat of arms.

The plump and rosy cheeked child is depicted in a traditional manner with a red halo and attired in a monk's cowl. The child stands amongst leafy branches bearing fruit and is posed holding the book of law in his left hand, while the fingers of his right hand are extended in a blessing. The image includes a hand lettered toast on a white banner, which reads, "Wohl bekomm's!" This is translated as "Cheers!" and/or "I hope you like it!"

This vessel stands 6½" without the stopper in place and 8¾" with the stopper in place. I am reluctant to make the claim that this is the original stopper for this piece, although the amber glass seems to be a pretty close, if not perfect, color match.  The base on this piece expands out to 3¼" before returning to 2½" at the base.
