D.C. Thomas, Maj. 18th Regt. Ind. Vol.". Addressed to a soldier in the 27th Indiana regiment, to "John Jones,  27th Regt. Ind. Vol., In care of Capt. Birge, Frederick, Md."

D.C. Thomas was Dewitt Clinton Thomas, who was commissioned Major of the 18th Indiana on Aug. 16, 1861, and discharged for promotion on Oct. 21, 1862, as Col. of the 93rd Indiana Infantry. Breveted Brigadier General, Mar. 13, 1865.
