Canon7
The successor to the Model VI series, it was Canon's first model to use Arabic numerals in its model name. At this time, high-end 35mm cameras with interchangeable lenses were largely shifting to single-lens reflex cameras, which were not restricted by interchangeable lenses. Canon had already introduced the Canonflex, but it was decided that the need for a camera with an interchangeable rangefinder was still strong because of its superior quick shooting performance when using a wide-angle lens and its ability to respond immediately to shutter release opportunities, etc. Model 7 incorporated an exposure meter, which had not been possible with the previous models up to Model VI, and was compatible with a wide range of interchangeable lenses from 35mm to 135mm. The basic development concept of Model 7 was to incorporate an exposure meter, which had not been possible until Model VI; to incorporate a viewfinder mechanism that would be compatible with a wide range of interchangeable lenses from 35mm to 135mm; and to mount the dream of a super large aperture 50mm F0.95 lens, which was being developed at the same time. The Model 7 was presented at the 7th Photokina along with the Canonet, Canon's first entry into the mid-range camera market.
