Comprising a custom set of unique specs, this USA Eclipse Semi-hollow represents a distinctive spin on ESP’s premier semi-hollow. This Eclipse starts with a set-thru 3-piece thin “U” mahogany neck, surrounded by a mahogany top, back, and sides in a charmingly understated open-grain satin finish. The result? Superb sustain and a clear, midrange-rich character. Frankly, it’s the the perfect foundation for the humbucking heat of the USA Eclipse Semi-hollow’s dual Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Special pickups — vintage-style humbuckers that harken back to the days when arena rock reigned supreme. You also get golden Sperzel Trim-Lok tuners and a TonePros locking TOM-style bridge for enhanced string-to-body resonance. An ultra-high-performance ebony fingerboard studded with stainless steel XJ frets seals the deal, all adding up to a truly striking 6-string that stands well apart from the semi-hollow pack.
ESP’s USA-made models are nearly legendary at Sweetwater for their immaculate performance and easy playability. Even then, it’s tough not to be blown away by ESP USA Eclipse Semi-hollow’s fast-playing neck! Crafted with a stable 3-piece mahogany construction, this guitar’s thin “U” profile is a shredder’s delight, allowing you to traverse the ebony fingerboard’s 22 XJ frets with an almost frictionless feel. What’s more, the USA Eclipse Semi-hollow sports heavy-duty stainless steel frets that are all but impervious to the wear and tear experienced by typical nickel-based frets.
The USA Eclipse Semi-hollow offers a vast tonal range thanks to dual Seymour Duncan humbuckers. Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Special humbuckers nail the guitar sound that filled arenas in the late 1970s, but with a tighter, more modern low end. These classic-voiced, moderate-output pickups employ Alnico IV magnets to produce warm cleans and articulate overdriven tones that lend nicely to crunchy riffs and stinging leads.
ESP started as a manufacturer of aftermarket guitar parts in Japan in the late 1970s. By the mid-'80s, ESP was making custom guitars for some of the biggest names in rock. An exacting eye toward playability and craftsmanship has made ESP Guitars one of the most visible and prevalent guitar brands in rock and metal. In 2014, ESP opened its first US-based production factory. It's there that they craft their acclaimed ESP USA series guitars by hand, using the finest materials from around the world. George Lynch, Ron Wood, Kirk Hammett, and Stephen Carpenter (alongside a bunch of us here at Sweetwater) rely on ESP guitars onstage and in the studio.
